Kitchen Deep Cleaning
Kitchen deep cleaning, in my opinion, is the most important area to keep clean. After all, you do keep your food in there! The nasty truth is, a lot of people often neglect deep cleaning their kitchen. Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the things that “should” be cleaned. Maybe you’re not sure where to start.
No worries! I have listed my personal routine. I make sure to complete this every 3 months.
Some products that I make sure I have on hand are:
- Blue dawn dish soap
- Bar keeper’s friend powdered and cream
- Baking soda
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Citra-Solv degreaser and extra orange essential oil mixed together
- Scotch brite pads and microfiber towels
Hood vent filter
You can either replace this if it’s “too far gone”, or you can soak the filter in hot water, dawn dish soap, and baking soda.
Burnt Pans
Bar keeper’s friend is an essential product to have around the house. I use the powdered version for this. Along with a scotch brite no scratch pad.
Stove Hood
Spray a healthy amount of degreaser mixed with orange eo and let sit for about 5 minutes. Wipe clean. Repeat if necessary.
Stove Grates
Bar keeper’s friend and dawn dish soap. Sprinkle the BKF and apply dawn dish soap. Scrub and coat evenly. Let this sit. The longer the better. Then wash off, using a scotch brite pad.
Stove Top
On any surface, glass, stainless steel, those white stove tops…etc this method works. I evenly cover my stove top (without the grates) with powdered BKF, then squeeze some of the BKF cream solution, then lastly a few drops of dawn dish soap. I take my degreaser and spray over this making it into a paste. Using your no-scratch pad, I lightly apply pressure to scrub, mixing everything together. Applying too much pressure can scratch surfaces so don’t scrub too hard. I scrub evenly for about 3 minutes, then I let this solution sit for 10 minutes.
Stove Grates
Fill your sink with water. Add hydrogen peroxide, dawn dish soap, degreaser and baking soda. Soak the grates for awhile. I’d say 20-30 minutes. Scrub and wipe clean. You can do this with ammonia and it takes a lot less time but that’s too harsh for me! Our friends at Maid In Hoboken also agree with using better and safer alternative cleaners for deep cleaning.
Kithen Windows
If you have a kitchen window, it can get dirty! Clean that window and wash the curtains around the window if necessary.
Purge Expired Food
Everyone is guilty of keeping condiments too long. Or maybe there is something lingering in the back of your fridge leaving an icky odor. Take EVERYTHING out and toss according to expiration date and how frequently you use something. If it’s left over dinner or Chinese take out from 2 weeks ago…toss it!
Inside of the fridge
Oh yes. This is a dreaded task. One that hardly gets done on a regular basis, because who has time for that? Well, it’s very important to clean your fridge out 2x a year. I remove all the shelves and drawers and soak them in the bathtub with dawn dish soap and CitraSolv. Then I go ahead with a mixture of dawn dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and water in a spray bottle. I thoroughly clean the inside. I go back to the shelves and drawers and clean those. Soaking it makes it a million times easier to clean.
Here is what your fridge SHOULD look like.
The pantry
I skim the pantry for expired food. Take everything out. Clean the inside with the mixture in your spray bottle formula. Put everything back nice and organized.
Inside and outside cabinets
Take everything out and clean inside with your spray bottle mix. Put everything back. Everything should have their own place. Clean the outsides with degreaser and dawn dish soap using microfiber towels. Don’t forget the cabinet and drawer pulls.
Other tips
To complete my kitchen deep cleaning, I like to clean and polish all my appliances as well. It adds the finishing touches. Of course wiping your counters down is a must. Make sure the dishes are done and put away. Wash your sink with your spray bottle mixture. Polish it as well. (A lot of people forget to actually clean their sink and it can get real gross, real fast.) I also like to put lemons and ice cubes in the garbage disposal to clean inside and sharpen the blades.
All of these kitchen deep cleaning tasks we listed are the most important tasks that should be maintained regularly. The best cleaning service in Tampa can take care of your deep kitchen cleaning tasks if you find yourself struggling to get through on your own.
